A: http://sophiapanza.weebly.com (former blog post(s))
I believe that my first blog about sexualization of young girls and the impact of media and the digital world on mental and physical health most reflects my talents because the blog allowed me to express my feelings on many different topics and allowed me to express myself and my ideas through commenting on other student's blogs. By giving input on my view on a certain topic, allowed me to express the way I felt through my own words and feelings. This new media text (poster) reflects my growth as a media producer because I am expanding on different texts which can reach my target audience by blogging or having posters. I feel as though a blog would work well for this media assignment as everything is well organized and planned out according to how I wanted my personal blog to look like. I also feel as though a poster/ flyer is sufficient as it is very simple can easy to remember based off of what it looks like for my target audience. I strongly believe that all blogs and posters allows each writer and artist to express themselves freely based off of what their opinion is and based off of what they want their final product to look like.
B: How has the course shaped the way you look at the media?
I strongly believe that this course has changed/ shaped the way I look at media. This course allowed me to view and understand what and how the media has affected our lives and how the media alters our perception of what we as viewers view and listen too rather than what the media is trying to prove. Before this course, I had some idea of how the media is altering our perceptions, but as I was taught throughout the course, I truly had no idea how much of an impact the media had on children, teenagers and adults. This course allowed me to view the different types of media and how each media source had a different impact on viewers. In addition, this course taught me that what the media is saying or proving is not what we as viewers are interpreting. Lastly, this media course taught me the different ways that the media covers up or what the media doe not fully prove. In conclusion, this media course was a fun and exciting experience- learning different techniques and strategies that the media covers up was extremely entertaining!
C: What do you do differently?
Since the media course, I have looked at many things differently. The number one thing I would look at differently would have to be the way I see men and women in magazines and advertisements. I would have to say that what I have learned about men and women in media has changed the way I view them in magazines and advertisements. Before what I had learned, I did not notice how women were subordinate to men or how women and men do not actually look like in real life compared to advertisements, films, pictures and videos- proving how people are so used to seeing the media that they forget the true meaning of media, and then after talking about how in fact this is happening, I notice a lot more. Before the media course, I looked at the media in only one way- which is a personal opinion, but after taking this media course, I have come to the conclusion that I did in fact view media in the wrong way which proves how much of an impact media has on our lives that we (the viewers) do not realize how much of an impact the media truly makes. Without this media course, i would still be looking at media through my own eyes rather than seeing and learning about different perspectives within the class and other students.
